Where Athens Ben Epps Airport Is
Athens–Ben Epps Airport is at 1010 Ben Epps Drive, three nautical miles east of Athens’ central business district. The county-owned airport serves commercial and general aviation.
The airport opened in 1917 and takes its name from Ben T. Epps, identified by the Athens tourism listing as Georgia’s first aviator. If you are arranging a pickup or rental, use the airport’s street address to identify the correct location in Athens.
How do you drive from AHN to Elberton?
Driving is the road option supported by the route details, but the directions start in Athens rather than specifying a route from the airport terminal. Google Maps gives two Athens-to-Elberton choices: 34.2 miles via GA-72 E and 37.1 miles via Danielsville Road and GA-72 E.
Use those routes as a starting point, then enter the airport as your departure point in your navigation app. That lets you follow directions from Ben Epps Drive rather than assuming the route begins in central Athens. The route distances are from Athens to Elberton, not a separate airport-to-hotel drive time.
Rental Cars and Other Ground Transport
Athens-Clarke County identifies car rentals among the businesses operating at the airport. Hertz has a Ben Epps Airport rental location at 1020 Ben Epps Drive, Athens, GA 30605-2265, with phone number +1 706-543-5984. Rental availability, hours and booking terms can change, so confirm directly with the provider before relying on a pickup.
The county’s airport charter-services page names AirStar, Epps Air Service, Georgia Jet and Wheels Up. These are charter-service operators, so contact a provider directly to ask about service for your trip. No scheduled ground-transfer details are included here.
What to Check Before You Travel
Athens-Clarke County gives airport hours as Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–9:00 PM, and Saturday–Sunday, 7:00 AM–9:00 PM. The Athens tourism listing gives 6:00 AM–10:00 PM every day. Since hours and business operations can change, check the official site before you go, and confirm rental-car hours with the rental company.
For navigation, set the airport’s full address as your starting point and Elberton as your destination. Compare live directions with the two Athens-to-Elberton routes, as the listed road distances do not establish which route is best for your departure time.
